125 bottles of cough syrup seized in Silchar

SILCHAR: Smuggling of contraband goods is a routine affair through the corridor of Barak Valley. Most of these goods are taken to Bangladesh, taking advantage of the astray holes in border fencing. Often smugglers are caught and subjected to penal measures. Sometime, they give a slip also as it happened on Friday at Silchar railway station.

According to Mrinal Mondal, station master, during routine check of the Silchar-Agartala passenger train around 8 am, RPF team led by head constable RB Das found cartons of banned cough syrup, totaling 125 bottles in a compartment and seized them. Apprehending the RPF team would swoop on them, the smugglers maintain a distance inside the compartment made their escape good. It is suspected that the smugglers are from Tripura and the cough syrup bottles were meant for smuggling them out to Bangldaesh where they are in great demand.
