Silchar: 13 tractors were distributed among farmers under the Chief Minister’s Samagra Gramya Unnaya Yojana (CMSGUY) at a ceremonial function held at the District Library auditorium in Silchar on Tuesday.

Addressing the function as the chief-guest at the packed auditorium, Minister of Forest, Fisheries and Excise Parimal Suklabaidya said that the tractors are being distributed among the beneficiary farmers of every village under the CMSGUY. “It is indeed a historic day. Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal in particular and BJP in general assured that focus would be laid on agricultural development and prosperity. The Sonowal led State government took up the scheme in order to double the income of farmers,” he said.

Parimal Suklabaidya further said that it was the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi’s mission to double the income of the farmers by the year 2022.

“These grants-in-aid will help the farmers in many ways. Moreover, they will just have to pay a meagre amount for the tractors. Tractors are given to them at a much subsidized rate (70 per cent subsidy). This will also enable them to use it for doubling their production,” he added to say. He said that farmers should be self-reliant, self-sufficient and self-dependent. “Farmers and farming are the lifelines of our country. Both the Centre and the State is determined to launch schemes for enhancing agricultural products,” said the minister.

MLA Aminul Haque Laskar stressed on the importance of conducting an ‘achievement programme’ also so that all can know what has been the outcome of distribution of tractors. Among others present at the occasion included former Union Minister Kabindra Purkayastha, Dr S Lakshmanan, Deputy Commissioner of Cachar.
