Silchar, July 20: All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students Association (ACKHSA), Silchar, has expressed its deep concern at the indifferent attitude of the authorities in the matter of admission of students in 2018 in various departments of Assam University which has been against the interest of the students communities in Cachar, Karimganj, Hailakandi, North Cachar Hills (Dima Hasao) and Karbi Anglong districts, the five districts which falls under the jurisdiction of the varsity. In this regard, ACKHSA has submitted a memorandum to the vice chancellor of the university on Thursday. It has been mentioned in the memorandum that clause 6 of the Assam University Act, 1989 stipulates ‘Jurisdiction of the University shall extend to Cachar, Karimganj, Hailakandi, North Cachar Hills (Dima Hasao) and Karbi Anglong districts’.

Talking to The Sentinel, Rupam Nandi Purkayastha, advisor to ACKHSA, said, “It has been alleged that I am against admission of students who come from other places except the districts of Cachar, Karimganj, Hailakandi, North Cachar Hills (Dima Hasao) and Karbi Anglong. Students coming from these districts should be given priority and first reference. ACKHSA demanded 80% special reservation of seats for students coming from colleges under the jurisdiction of Assam University. However, the authorities concerned have decided to go for 60% in reservation of seats for them. Moreover, owing to the irregularity and delay in declaration of TDC results, Assam University students are unable to even apply for admission or entrance tests of other varsities of the country.”
