AIUDF in battle mode to defeat Congress and BJP

Silchar: “AIUDF is not a dark horse to be taken for granted. To rule out the party as of no consequence is to underestimate and undermine it. Workers from the gaon panchayat level across the 7 constituencies of Cachar are being warmed up and prepared for the poll battle of 2019 for Silchar seat. We are confident to browbeat our main adversaries, BJP and Congress, and make them eat a humble pie,” said Saminul Haque Barbhuiya, Cachar district president, in a tete a tete with The Sentinel here.

“AIUDF is the voice of indigenous people, neglected and discriminated against both by BJP and Congress,” pointed out Barbhuiya. Their hopes and aspirations are never properly reflected either in the assembly or the parliament. Targeting both Sushmita Dev, sitting MP, and Kabindra Purkayastha, who was in the parliament three times, he called their performance quite disappointing. People are thinking afresh for a change and this is going to happen, a confident Barbhuiya pointed out. These leaders can no more bamboozle the masses.

These leaders busy with self aggrandizement have never tried to understand the problems of the area and strive for solutions. Acute unemployment problem has forced 1.5 lakh youths to migrate to south India in search of jobs who are often subjected to untold harassment and sufferings. Sugar mill remains closed. Cachar Paper mill is shut down, telling heavily on rural economy. He described Sushmita Dev “a failed leader” who after winning the last election has turned a Nelson’s eye towards her vote bank, Muslims, Barbhuiya added to say.

He did not spare BJP leaders like Dr Rajdeep Roy and Dilip Kumar Paul who he said instead of addressing public issues are fighting for tickets. The BJP ruled Centre and the State could do a lot for the valley, but they have no concern. “This is most unfortunate”, he stated. People unseated Congress for corruptions. Is BJP different, he asked? He laid accusing fingers at BJP in particular for the booming illegal trade in coal and this single factor will be a stumbling block for its candidate on Silchar seat, he said.

Opposition has been branding AIUDF as communal to gain political benefit. “This is a blatant lie. Our party is open for all. Otherwise, Radheshyam Biswas will not be a candidate from Karimganj again,” he asserted. He claimed the names of 48 lakh women would have been dropped from NRC but for AIUDF. Last time the party could not field its candidate, giving enough space to Congress to win despite Modi wave. He knew unless Sushmita Dev is questioned for her role as an MP, Muslim votes cant be consolidated. His repeated question was why should the MP elected from here should stay at Delhi? She could not spend Rs 8 crore of her development fund.

People have begun to ask why should they vote for Dev if she has no concern for development. Saminul Haque Barbhuiya claimed besides the indigenous people, tea tribes, a grossly discriminated lot, would vote for AIUDF candidate. He named Dr K M Baharul Islam, former state general secretary of the party, Anwar Hussain , Karim Uddin and himself as one of the probable candidates for Silchar seat. With AIUDF entering the fray this time, Congress in particular will find its pitch rather queered.
