All India Democratic Students' Organization (AIDSO) stages protest in Silchar

Silchar: All India Democratic Students' Organization (AIDSO) staged a protest demonstration against the unexpected and uncalled for enhancement of fees of High School Leaving Certificate and High Madrassa by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam, (SEBA) on Thursday in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar in Silchar. Later, they also submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar Dr. S Lakshmanan which was addressed to the Secretary of SEBA was sent through the Deputy Commissioner.

The members said that the SEBA authorities have enhanced the fees in an irrational manner which would have a negative impact upon the poor students.

Such acts are but an attempt to privatize the education system. Gour Chandra Das of AIDSO said that their party would continue with this movement throughout the State of Assam. He further urged upon the students and their guardians to actively participate in this movement. It is pertinent to mention here that the Board of Secondary Education, Assam conducts HSLC and High Madrassa examinations in the State. The fees for the said examination was enhanced from Rs.500 to Rs.650. Apart from this, the annual fees of school have also been enhanced from Rs.500 to Rs.800.
