AMPF resolves to erect statue of Bidyapati Singha

Silchar, May 16: A series of activities was taken up by representatives from 30 Manipuri villages of Hailakandi district at a daylong programme conducted by Assam Manipuri Progressive Front (AMPF) at Thougat Masup auditorium hall at Hailakandi. The executive committee members of the central committee of Assam Manipuri Progressive Front took an oath as the functionaries of the organization. The oath taking ceremony was well executed by K Swapan Singha. It was followed by an open discussion session which was presided over L Tezomani Singha, president of Assam Manipuri Progressive Front. Dr M Santi Kumar Singha, general secretary of Assam Manipuri Progressive Front stated that it is high time for Manipuri speaking people to unite under one agenda.

It is also very essential to show respect to Manipuri leaders. By following the principles of the first Manipuri MLA Bidyapati Singha, it is essential for them to reorganize their community for prosperity and political sustenance, pointed out Dr M Santi Kumar Singha. Being a linguistic minority community, Manipuri community should also struggle for existence and conservation of their cultural identity at this crucial juncture when the issues of NRC and Citizenship Bill are ruling the roost. He said that the traditional handloom practice of Manipuri community should be taken care of and concrete steps should be taken for its revival and commercialization.

Y Prafulla Singha, L Manglumbe Singha, Y Nadiyachand Singha, N Brajabashi Singha, Nandakumar Singha and Dhaneswar Singha supported the issues raised by the general secretary of Assam Manipuri Progressive Front. Later, the house resolved to form Hailakandi district committee. A separate meeting of the newly formed committee was also held. Ashim Mani, former labour officer was appointed as the returning officer. The house constituted 27 executive committee of Hailakandi.

H Sukhendu Singha and Leirenjao Singha were selected as president and general secretary of the new committee. The oath taking ceremony of the newly formed committee was also held at the same day. Hailakandi district committee also resolved to erect the statue of N Bidyapati Singha at Hailakandi with the support of all the villagers within one year. It was also decided that a project on handloom and textiles for Manipuri women would be prepared and submitted to the State government. Th. Kulebidhu Singha delivered the vote of thanks.
