Silchar, July 10: All India Federation of Anganwadi Workers and Helpers (AIFAWH) which is the national federation of Anganwadi workers and helpers on Tuesday took out a massive rally here in their protest against the Central Government’s decisions for direct cash transfer in the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), opening nursery schools in place of Anganwadi centres and budget cut in ICDS. Around 100 ICDS workers took an active part in the rally which converged for the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar. Supriya Bhattacharjee and Avijit Gupta on behalf of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), Cachar district committee, were also there.

The organization observed July 10 as ‘Save ICDS’ Day and has been observing July 10 as ‘All India Demands Day’ for two decades. The demands include stopping privatization of ICDS in any form, making ICDS a permanent programme, implementing recommendations of 45th and 46th Indian Labour Conferences, regularization of Anganwadi workers and helpers, paying minimum wages not less than Rs.18000 per month, pension not less than Rs.3000 per month and provision of all social security benefits. These Anganwadi workers and helpers raised their voices against the government’s anti ICDS policies before the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar. The Centre’s move to privatize ICDS under the private public partnership (PPP) model has shaken up the Anganwadi workers and helpers.
