Silchar, July 21: Based on earlier apprehension of 3 Zelianrong United Front (ZUF) (Kamson) cadres with sophisticated arms and large quantity of ammunition from Ramgaijang village, a follow up operation was launched in same village today by Kadamtala Battalion of Assam Rifles along with police personnel of Jirighat police station based on information from Assam Rifles Field Intelligence Unit (ARFIU). One active member of ZUF (Kamson) cadre Adum alias Andi, resident of Senapati district Manipur, was apprehended. Adum is known to have been carrying out large scale criminal and illegal activities in the area of Jiribam and Cachar districts.

Adum was apprehended from the house of vice chairman of Ramgaijang Part IV, Pougangai Rongmei where the insurgent was forcibly staying. Cadre was holding portfolio of secretary of Human Resource and Welfare of ZUF (Kamson) faction. Two mobile phones and incriminating documents were recovered from him. The individual was earlier a member of Naga National Council (NNC) and joined ZUF in 2013. He has been handed over to Jirighat police for further investigation. This is a major blow to the ZUF operating in Cachar and Jiribam areas as he is the fifth cadre to be apprehended in the past one week.

This is the second major breakthrough in dismantling the underground structure as in the previous month four cadres of United Tribal Liberation Army were apprehended and the self-styled C-in-C of the Army of UTLA (P) was eliminated from the Jiribam area. These operations have given a sigh of relief to the local populace who has been victims of the atrocities of the insurgents group in the past. The villagers were appreciative of the actions by the Assam Rifles and Cachar police for carrying out precise operations without affecting their daily routine.
