‘App to track violations of moral code of conduct very effective’- Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri

Silchar: In a bid to track violations of the model code of conduct and election expenditure, encouraging citizens to participate and report electoral malpractices, the Election Commission of India has introduced cVIGIL application. The app is available on Google Play store. “With this app, citizens can upload photographs and videos of violations of model code, instances of use of money power, employing illegal means to influence voters etc from the spot. To respond to app-based complaints, a control room has been set up at the Deputy Commissioner’s office here and flying squads are deployed in the field to reach the spot, conduct inquiry and take immediate steps to stop such violations,” stated Deputy Commissioner of Cachar Laya Madduri. She also informed that action will be taken within 100 minutes on every such complaint. So far, only 10 complaints have been received from people through this app. She said that it is a very effective tool to create level-playing field for all candidates and public should utilize it by reporting violations.
