Assam University, Silchar to Host Innovators’ Exhibition

SILCHAR: The Innovation Club of Assam University, Silchar will be organizing a one-day Innovators’ Exhibition and Workshop on August 27 at the Netaji Mukta Mancha in the university campus. The programme will include a school-level innovation model competition and a university-level ‘Idea Hunt’ competition among the students of Assam University and the colleges under it. The one-day programme will also bring together the grassroots innovators from Barak Valley to showcase their innovation to a wider audience.

Prof Ravikrishnan Elangovan from IIT, Delhi, and Prof Biman Dutta, member, NEC, Shillong, will be present as resource persons in the event. Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dilip Chandra Nath will inaugurate the programme. The Innovation Club of Assam University was inaugurated by the then President, Pranab Mukherjee on May 13, 2013. Since then, the club has been engaged in several initiatives to support and promote unaided grassroots innovators of Barak Valley.

The latest programme is organized to deepen the engagement of the Central university with the local communities and to instil a culture of innovation among the young children of the region. The co-ordinator of the Innovation Club of Assam University, Prof SK Jasimuddin said, “The prime objective of the Innovation Club is to create awareness, educate, nurture, and inculcate a scientific spirit among the school and college students of the region and the local communities to enable them to generate new ideas and innovation that would serve the society.” The school-level competition will be in two categories. The first category is open to students of class nine and ten, and the second category is open to students of class eleven and twelve.

Each school will send one team of three members for each category. The teams will exhibit their models along with poster presentations. The university-level ‘Idea Hunt’ competition is an individual event open to students and research scholars of Assam University as well as students of colleges affiliated to Assam University.
