Silchar, June 16: Eid–ul–Fitr has been celebrated across Barak Valley with joy and enthusiasm. Muslims celebrated Eid–ul–Fitr, which is the celebration of peace and happiness, across the valley with great enthusiasm today. Muslims from all occupations were seen dressed in new clothes, visiting the mosques to attend Eid prayers and exchanging greetings of 'Eid Mubarak' with fellow Muslims. Eid prayers began at9.30 am at Silchar Bara Masjid which was conducted by Imam Maulana Shabbir Ahmed Laskar. Maulana Nurul Haque Talukdar, principal, Silchar Alia Madrasa, delivered Eid message while Maulana Maqbool Hussain Laskar conducted holy prayers at Tikarbasti Idgha, the oldest mosque in the south Assam region.

In his message, Maulana Shabbir Ahmed Laskar called upon the congregation to follow the doctrines of the Supreme God and lead a life of peace and restraint. He laid stress on spreading the message of goodwill and harmony in the society. Explaining the significance of the holy Ramdan, he said, "A true follower of Islam never takes to evil practices like trade in interest, bribery and intoxication." On this holiest occasion, his appeal to the misguided and wayward persons in the community is to shun the path of misconduct.

It is against the tenets of Islam and holy Quran to indulge in violent way of life. Those engaged in militancy should come back to the mainstream of life. "Extremism or militancy is not a solution to any problem," Maulana Shabbir Ahmed Laskar pointed out. He had a message for the militants of Kashmir who are spreading venom and creating an atmosphere of extreme animosity and hatred. Referring to some of the recent killings of army officers, jawans, civilians and the noted journalist Shujaat Bhukari, he described the situation in Kashmir as 'grave'. It is at the behest of Pakistan and ISI that the misguided and indoctrinated youths have let loose a reign of lawlessness and violence.

These elements have to be crushed with tough hands. It is also most unfortunate that even on the occasion of holy Ramdan, bloodshed should happen. All stakeholders should join hands together for finding permanent solution to the problem of Kashmir. Maulana Shabbir Ahmed Laskar also called upon the militants of northeast, still in wilderness, to come over ground and become partner in the process of peace and development. He also reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi who has rightly said, "Development can defeat violence". He was all praise for the declared policy of NDA government for the development of all communities of the country.

Maulana Shabbir Ahmed Laskar taking a cue from his statement said the government should still focus on the socio economic amelioration of the Muslims with initiatives for creating more opportunities for their improvement of education, health structure, communication and infrastructure. The joy and happiness associated with the great festival has been subdued by a sense of panic and fear, mainly on account of the NRC update. He favoured humanitarian consideration for all those immigrants who had to desert their hearths and homes due to persecution in their homeland of East Pakistan, now Bangladesh. Maulana Maqbool Hussain Laskar who delivered Eid day speech at Tikarbasti Idgah in identical manner called for peace, harmony and brotherhood.
