Barak Valley’s First Brain Surgery Carried Out At Green Heals Hospital

SILCHAR: Green Heals Hospital Pvt Ltd, which started its journey three years ago under the leadership of legendary visionary Dr Rahul Gupta, has earned the distinction of being the first hospital in the entire valley of Barak to have performed the first brain tumour operation – Craniotomy and total excision of left parietal meningioma. The surgery was conducted by neurosurgeon Dr Dibanath Chakrabarty with the assistance of Dr PR Bishnu, surgery, and Dr Abhijit Das, anaesthetist, at Green Heals Hospital, Silchar. Dr Chakrabarty performed the exhaustive surgery which lasted almost 7 hours and finally removed a large-sized tumour from a 40-year-old female patient Bijul Nath, wife of Parimal Nath and resident of Narsingpur. Now, she is completely leading a normal life with no post-operative complications.

Addressing media persons held at the conference hall of the hospital here on Friday evening, Dr Dibanath Chakrabarty said, “I took the decision as Bijuli needed an urgent operation. I could take up the challenge as I knew that there is sufficient infrastructure available at Green Heals Hospital that can help me in my endeavour. Bijuli Nath is fit as a fiddle now.” He further said that such treatment is risky as it solely depends upon two things – financial condition and physical stability of the patient. “We would be lucky to get a neurology department at Silchar Medical College and Hospital,” he added to say.

Illustrious son of an illustrious father, Rudra Narayan Gupta, managing director of the Hospital, said that it was a dream-come-true-moment for the hospital. “This is really big considering the limited resources available here. Around 10 OT technicians along with the efficient team of doctors performed a miracle. We want that the mindset of the people living in this part should change.
