Bharat Ratna Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru's 55th death anniversary observed by Silchar District Congress Committee

Silchar: Silchar District Congress Committee (DCC) paid rich tributes to Bharat Ratna Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the architect and first Prime Minister of independent India, on his 55th death anniversary in Silchar on Monday. Pandit Nehru was the country's longest-serving Prime Minister. Committee members including its president Pradip Kumar Dey, APCC secretary and member of Silchar DDC media cell Sanjeev Roy, K Aton Singh, Abdul Rajjak, Sajal Dev, Sopnara Begum and others paid floral tributes to the portrait of Pandit Nehru.

Later, a seminar chaired by Pradip Kumar Dey was also organized. The seminar was titled 'Ethics of Nehru and the present India'. Speakers Monikanta Singha, Sanjeev Roy, Nilotpol Sen and Rajesh Dev, threw light on the life and times of Pandit Nehru. Pandit Nehru fought for the country's freedom struggle against the British rule and was also imprisoned a number of times during the freedom struggle. It was in the year 1947 when he became the Prime Minister. He died on May 27, 1964. Pandit Nehru was a prolific writer in English and wrote a number of books. In the year 1955, he was awarded Bharat Ratna, the country's highest civilian honour.
