BSF conducts rescue and relief operation

Silchar, June 16: In the last couple of days, torrential and incessant rain lashed border areas of Mizoram and Barak Valley on Indo-Bangladesh border. All local rivers and rivulets in the border areas are flowing above danger mark and are in a spate. The banks of these rivers are inundated and turned into a vast expanse of water. The villages on either side of the border are submerged under flood waters including villages in Tlabung sub division and Tipperghat of Mizoram and village Natanpur of Barak Valley. Some of the BOPs have also come under water. Despite being severely affected by the flash flood where BOPs are submerged in flood waters, troops of 159 Bn BSF deployed in Lunglei and 131 Bn BSF at Dholcherra, Cachar, responded to the situation promptly and swung into action to evacuate men, women, children, aged and ailing persons of villages to safer places.

Known for their high and indomitable spirit, BSF men took all risks to their life for the safety and rescue of marooned people. Showing humane gesture, the officers and troops of BSF did not forget to cater to the much needed potable water and necessary medical care and health to the affected villagers in coordination with the local administration and the NGOs. This instilled a sense of confidence among the poor border population at the time of need. Such humane efforts have been highly appreciated by the border population and civil administration. Information from the three districts of Barak Valley shows that Barak and all its tributaries after rising alarmingly for the last 36 hours are steady.
