Cachar gears up for 17th Lok Sabha election

Silchar: Following the announcement of the dates for the 17th Lok Sabha election, Cachar district administration and police have geared up to conduct the poll in a free fair and peaceful manner. On Monday, Deputy Commissioner of Cachar Laya Madduri told the media persons that elections will be held in Cachar district on April 18 for which notification will be issued on March 19. The last date for filing nominations is March 26 while last date for withdrawal of nominations is March 29 as the scrutiny will be held on March 28.

The counting of votes will be held on May 23. The Deputy Commissioner spoke at length on the nitty-gritty of adhering to the Model Code of Conduct. She laid special emphasis on disseminating awareness among the voters about the VVPAT system and also on the applications like the Vigil and Suvidha designed by the Election Commission of India for facilitating the election proceedings across the country.
