Cachar to Observe World Population Day on July 11

Silchar: Population explosion is the root cause of many problems. Keeping this in view, World Population Fortnight is being observed. On July 11, World Population Day will be observed in the district, with a view to create mass awareness about family planning.

A meeting has been held under the chairmanship of Laya Madduri, Deputy Commissioner, Cachar at the conference hall of the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, in the presence of Rajib Roy, ADC (Health), Dr. S J Das, joint director of health services, Dr. Ashutosh Barman, superintendent S. M. Dev Civil Hospital, Rahul Ghose, DPM, NHM, Suman Choudhury, DME, NHM, surgeons from Silchar Medical College and Hospital, private partners from Burrows Memorial Hospital, Siva Sundari Nari Sikshashram and Emmanual Hospital.

As a part of the programme mobilization fortnight “Dampati Sampark Pakhwada” is being observed from June 27 to July 10, where eligible couples will be motivated to adopt family planning methods. It has been decided that on July 11 i.e. on World Population Day a rally called Walk for Happy Family will be organized. From July 11 to July 24, various family planning services will be provided at designated hospitals.
