Century-old rural school Banskandi Madhyabanga School in shambles

Special Correspondent

Silchar: The parents, guardians and students are having anxious moments of Banskandi cluster of villages, 20 km from here. Their cause of worry is the wretched condition of their alma mater Banskandi Madhyabanga School which was set up in 1904. The school has completed 118 years of its existence. The president of the managing committee of the school Abdul Rajib Laskar, Akbar Hussa Barbhuiya, Nazir Hussain Laskar, Bapi Laskar and Sonamia Laskar, guardians’ representatives, complained to this scribe that despite repeated representations to the higher authorities, no steps have been initiated to repair the damages or renovate the school.

During the current spell of rains, thunderstorms and cyclonic winds, the school has been lashed from all sides, turning it into the shape of a mangled structure as can be seen from the photograph. The big question is how the students numbering around 300 can continue their studies. The managing committee and the guardians have appealed to the higher authorities concerned to have the school inspected for proper assessment of the damages and draw up plan of action for the repair of the institution.
