Hailakandi: Clean and Green Village Mission, an initiative of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, has been launched in southern Assam’s Hailakandi district. The mission aims at making Assam one of the cleanest states of India.

The inaugural event at Paikan village under 6 Hailakandi Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC) on Wednesday was organized under the MyGov Assam initiative in association with the Zilla Parishad, Hailakandi, Public Health Engineering (PHE) department, Environment and Forest department, Agriculture department, the district administration and other stakeholders.

The second programme kicked off on Thursday at Rangabak 1 under 7 Katlicherra LAC. Tree saplings were distributed and planted on the occasion. Dustbins were placed at different locations. Streets were swept clean. Local villagers took part in the programme with the promise of carrying forward the Chief Minister’s vision of ‘Clean and Green Village’.

Later at an awareness meeting, Chief Executive Officer, Zilla Parishad, NKSK Singha appealed to the public to take up responsibility for protection of forests and the environment. He said a pollution-free and green environment is essential for the human race to sustain. Singha said the initiative will be organised at Pollarpar village under 8 Algapur LAC on Friday.

Stressing on the importance of involving children in the initiative, Singha said, “We encourage our children to come together and bring positive change in our society and Mother Nature. The children can showcase their green ideas, thoughts, social leadership, innovation, technology and how they can positively transform environment and society.”
