District administration completes preparations for Lok Sabha elections results in Silchar

Silchar: District administration of Cachar is all set for May 23 on which the results of the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections will be declared. Counting agents have already been appointed. “Counting will start from 8 in the morning for all the 7 LACs. Round-wise results will be published and publicized from time-to-time. 14 tables will be put for the purpose of counting. There is also a unique feature of Lok Sabha election 2019. The Lok Sabha election 2019 is the first ever polling exercise where EVM results will be matched with voter-verified paper audit trail (VVPAT) slips. Since it is a bit length, it may be time-consuming,” said Laya Madduri, Deputy Commissioner of Cachar at a press meet held at her conference hall here on Tuesday.

“In all 35 VVPATs will be counted. The counting will take place at NATRIP in Jhapirband. Results after each round will be uploaded in Suvidha application. This time, there is also postal ballot counting. A postal ballot will be transmitted through electronic means to the voters. It enables the voters to cast their vote on an electronically received postal ballot from their preferred location. It is called Electronically Transmitted Postal Ballot System (ETPBS). Till now, we have received 5741 postal ballot papers. 17 AROs, 14 GOs, 126 central government officers as micro-observers, 47 central government as assistant micro-observers, 29 tabulators, 126 counting supervisors and 126 counting assistants have been deployed to carry out the mammoth exercise of counting on May 23. A total number of 485 employees have been deployed for the purpose of counting,” Laya Madduri added to say.

Laya Madduri said, “Carrying photo-identity cards, passes and other valid documents are mandatory. She said that no unauthorized persons will be allowed to enter. There will be a media centre for the media persons.” Regarding the ongoing NRC process, she said that the process of Bio-metric Enrollment (BME) is going on rapidly and is in full swing. “We have 93 machines, 87 BME centres, 13 more BME centres will be added on Wednesday. We have also an ample number of operators now. We are hopeful to complete the process in time. Children below 5 years of age will have to appear for BME. Persons already having Aadhaar cards are also exempted from appearing for BME.”
