Silchar: “Holy Eid is not only a festival of sacrifice, it is also to spread the message of peace and amity among various communities of the society around. It is the day when man has to commit himself to rise above all means and selfish considerations and work for betterment of humanity in general,” pointed out Maulana Nurul Haque Talukdar, Principal of Alia Madarasa of this town, while addressing the vast faithful congregation at the two century old Idgah of Tikarbasti here.

Maulana Nurul Haque added, “We all celebrate Eid with joy and gaiety and sacrifice in the name of Allah, the supreme power. It is also the day when we have to give up all sense of hatred and enmity to make this earth a better place to live.” Islam preaches the ideals of human values and virtues which are so essential in this age of moral depravity.

The highly respected and learned Maulana said the five pillars of Islam are five duties which every Muslim must perform These are confession of faith, prayer, almsgiving, fasting during the month of Ramdan and the hajj, pilgrimage to Mecca. Those who follow the basic tenets of Islam and the path shown by Allah can never deviate from the path of virtue. Youths in particular need to be educated about this.

He had also words for women. They have to get education and take advantage of the opportunities provided by the State. He in particular referred to the Self Help Group Scheme which can make one self reliant and not dependent on others. Maulana Nurul Haque Talukdar appreciated the various welfare schemes and projects initiated by Narendra Modi government for the Muslims and advised all to make better use of them for socio-economic amelioration.

Maulana Nurul Haque has been conducting namaz at Tikarbasti Idgah for the last 45 years. His ill health no more allows him to do so. He gives the message of holy Eid sitting on a wheel chair. Now, namaz is conducted by Maulana Maqbool Hussain Laskar. It is also significant that Muslim women too joined their male folks for offering of namaz at the idgah of Arcatipore and Kazidahar of Cachar.
