Hailakandi: Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2019 is under way in South Assam’s Hailakandi district. Chairperson, District Water Sanitation Committee cum Deputy Commissioner, Keerthi Jalli appealed to the citizens to provide feedback on general cleanliness through mobile app ‘SSG 2019’ and toll free number 1800-5720-112. “Feedback is essential for planning of future activities. Hence, all positive or negative feedback is equally welcome, “ said Jalli, adding that active participation would help the district to achieve national level ranking this year.

It may mentioned that aspirational district Hailakandi is way ahead in terms of cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation compared to other districts of Assam. In this context, DC, Jalli urged everyone to keep the momentum going. Around 700 districts and 17,475 villages will be covered under the survey to be conducted in 34 states and union territories. In 2018, around 6,000 villages were covered under it.

Organised by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, the field survey, to rank states and districts based on sanitation level in terms of quantitative and qualitative parameters will be held at over 87,000 public places. Five public places in each village will be surveyed under the exercise that will conclude on September 30.

Ranking of states and districts will be on the basis of data gleaned from several sources: self-reporting by districts, data from SBM-G IMIS, district-level surveys of public places like schools, anganwadis, PHCs, haat bazaars, panchayat and ctizens’ perception of swachhata and their recommendations for improvement of the programme.
