Flood takes a toll of  8 in Cachar, 2 missing

Silchar, June 19: The fury of flood continues to play havoc with the State of Assam. Flood took a toll of 8 in Cachar, while search for 2 more bodies are still on. NDRF, SDRF along with other departments is busy in mitigating the problems, issues and concerns of this grave situation. As on today, 171 villages of the five revenue circles of Barak Valley, Silchar Sadar, Udharbond, Katigorah, Lakhipur and Sonai, have been badly affected.

Approximately 101859 people and 961 hectares of land (crop area) have been badly affected. 34 relief camps in Silchar Sadar, 14 in Katigorah, 1 in Lakhipur and 5 in Sonai, and 3 relief centres in Udharbond have been set up for the flood victims.

50500 people who include 18788 males, 16233 females and 11571 children have taken refuge in 54 relief camps and 69 relief centres across the Valley of Barak. A total number of 38075 large animals, 26218 small animals and 38258 poultries have been affected. The rescue operation teams have evacuated 250 persons. Till now 25 medical teams have been deployed. The trend of the water level in the rivers, Barak (Annapurna Ghat, Lakhipur Gauge Station), Sonai (Amraghat), Rukni (Dholai), Dhaleswari (Gharmura), Kathakal (Matijuri) and Kushiara (Karimganj) is falling. Ex gratia amount of Rs.4 lakh has been allotted to each of the families of the 5 deceased while process is going on for allotting the same to the 3 more families.
