'Focus will be on development alone': DC Keerthi Jalli

Hailakandi: Hailakandi Deputy Commissioner, Keerthi Jalli said her first and foremost priority is to usher in development in the district and to ensure the fruits of development reach out to the poorest of the poor people. In her first interaction with mediapersons at her office conference hall on Thursday after assuming office on Monday, DC Jalli said she is aware of the many problems confronting the people of the district and would like to adopt a solution oriented approach to take the aspirational district towards the path of progress and development. "I would like to take one by one the problems facing the people and find ways and means to redress their grievances," said Jalli, adding that plans are on the anvil for starting technology driven innovative projects to change the brand image of Hailakandi from an aspirational to a developed district.

Seeking the support and cooperation of the media in her tryst with development, Jalli said, "The negative perception has to be changed to usher in development. If development happens, peace will follow automatically. Towards this end I seek the support and cooperation of the media." Jalli said the district has had enough of law and order related issues and court stay orders and it was high time to shun confrontation and to adopt a conciliatory approach to resolve the burning problems facing the district.

The new Deputy Commissioner said one of her priorities is to weed out corruption through zero tolerance policy towards graft and to ensure transparency and accountability at all levels of administration. "Strict action will be taken against anyone indulging in corruption, " she added.

Jalli said that she would initiate steps in right earnest to improve work culture and would make visits to government offices from time to time to see whether things are moving in the right direction or not.

She asked the media persons to keep her posted of the happenings across the district as 'you are the eyes and ears of the people'. Jalli said the administration will come down heavily on those spreading rumours to create rift in the society. She asked the media to be on alert and to help the administration to rein in the anti-social elements. In the same breathe, the Deputy Commissioner asked the media persons to ascertain facts with the administration so that no misleading news appear that could disturb peace and communal harmony. Jalli directed District Information and Public Relations Officer, Sabir Nishat to form a media group exclusively for getting feedback from media persons and for disseminating news.
