Silchar, July 6: Rotary Club of Silchar (RI district 3240), in accordance to their current theme ‘Be the Inspiration’, is all set to bring in some revolutionary changes in various aspects. They have taken the challenging task of providing food items as tiffin to 1000 school going children belonging to BPL category. As of now, the initiative, with a tie-up with the Indian Food Banking Network (IFBN), Delhi and Rotary Club of Mahanagar, Kolkata, will cover 4 government schools of Silchar. The Club members have also taken up a mega tree plantation programme.

Within a few days, the club, in its 24th year, has already planted 3100 saplings in Silchar at different educational institutes, hospitals, industries and tea gardens. They have set the mammoth exercise of planting 1 lakh saplings in all the rotary club districts of the entire northeastern region. It is will be a step towards achieving the objectives of ‘Green Silchar’. Rotary Club undergoes a change in their president and board of directors with effect from July 1 every year.

To welcome the new session, they distributed edible items among differently abled children of Era Amader NGO, organized a seminar on women empowerment, donated medicines to Ramakrishna Mission, distributed edibles among the patients of Cachar Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Meherpur, Silchar and distributed stationery items, desks and benches in Durgashankar Paathshaala, Ambicapatty, Silchar. This was pointed out by Dr Kiranmoy Das, president, at a press-meet held at the Club on Thursday evening. He said the club has geared up for organizing the 24th installation ceremony of the new president Dr Kiranmoy Das at Banga Bhawan in Silchar on July 7.
