Lakhipur Police Seize Cannabis, two arrested From Badarpur

SILCHAR: Barak Valley, as earlier reported, seems to have become an easy and safe corridor for contraband goods and transportation of goods and materials illegally, keeping the security forces on their toes.

In the latest instance, a truck with Punjab number plate from Jallandhar was on scanner of Lakhipur police of Cachar on the basis of intelligence inputs. SDPO of Lakhipur sub division, Anurag Sarma, laid a trap at some strategic locations along NH 37 on information that a truck from Jallandhar with cannabis was on the move from Badarpur to Lakhipur. The truck in question was chased by a team of Banskandi PIC personnel led by Atikur Rahman before it could reach Lakhipur, perhaps to move towards Manipur.

A thorough search was conducted in the truck. A box was sighted between the seat of the driver and the container from which 4 packets of cannabis were recovered. Two persons were apprehended who were identified as Pawater Singh (45) and Rommy (32). They hail from Mansa and Barnala towns respectively of Punjab. They confessed they smuggled cannabis from Agartala to deliver it at Silchar. According to information, they camouflaged their real intent and purpose. There is more behind their story.

With artificial intelligence now working more strongly in man, methods of concealment, particularly, for drugs, heroin, and the latest addition of cannabis, have also become more novel which often hoodwink the check gates and posts to move on. The most puzzling aspect of this trade is that along with authorised goods, driver and his assistant of a truck carry from a pre arranged destination on way to load contraband goods for delivery at convenient spots without the knowledge of owners.
