SILCHAR: Deputy Speaker of Assam Assembly Aminul Haque has been very much vocal about the deteriorating standard of education in schools and also the resultant declining academic atmosphere in educational institutions of his Sonai constituency. He has started a sort of crusade to create awareness among teachers and students, parents and guardians to join hands together to revive the scholastic atmosphere for better teaching and learning process and for better performance by students in examinations.

The Deputy Speaker regretted despite a large number of schools, state and private, functioning across his constituency and the huge funds and incentives by the government, there is poor presence of qualified students for higher studies. He asked how many students from Sonai get admitted in Assam University every year.

Aminul Haque was also upset to learn that there has been no serious effort to appear for the APCS or UPSC examinations. There is something seriously wrong at the school level education, he openly admitted at an academic function of Moinul Haque Choudhury Higher Secondary School recently. In order to shake up the stereotype system, the concept 'chalo sikhi saathe saathe' (Let us learn together) was launched in a rural area close to Ramsundar Sahu M E School by the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, Laya Madduri, on Monday.

At the function presided over by Laya Madduri and graced by Aminul Haque Laskar as chief guest, the teachers were called upon to provide free teaching to students in the afternoon. The deputy commissioner said she reviewed the education system with the headmasters and departmental officers on September 6. She found great enthusiasm among the people of Sonai who came forward to extend all cooperation to support the initiative of the administration to improve the quality of school education.

Her advice to parents was to keep watch on their students so that they do not skip classes. Teachers on their part have to be more responsible and devote time to give proper and free education to their students after school hours. This novel initiative will be taken up in other six constituencies of Cachar. But, this can succeed if parents and guardians are equally serious. The Deputy Commissioner appreciated the positive attitude of Aminul Haque Laskar to make the scheme a success. The function was organised by local populace and Sarva Siksha Abhiyan.
