Mahamahopadhyaya Padmanath Bhattacharjee Vidyavinode’s Anthology released in Silchar

Silchar: Friday evening was a historic one, at least for avid book readers and lovers. Barak Boi Mela (book fair) witnessed a historical moment with the release of a book written by a creative and genius scholar of this region.

Though Mahamahopadhyaya Padmanath Bhattacharjee Vidyavinode was born more than a century ago, his demise could not wipe off his intellectual creative works. The writings of this great man have been compiled in the form of a book which was formally released by eminent surgeon Dr Kumar Kanti Das, popularly known as Lakkhan Das, at Barak Boi Mela premises.

A host of eminent personalities were also present at the historic release function. In his inaugural address, eminent scholar Dr Amalendu Bhattacharjee said that writers like Padmanath Bhattacharjee are the legacy, pride and prestigious. He also said that this day would go down the annals of history as a significant, important and red-letter day. Academicians and scholars who are interested to know about the history, culture and society of northeast India, should find refuge in the great man’s writings. The anthology has been edited by Prashun Barman. The editorial board comprises Dr Devasree Dutta and Dr Moynul Haque.

Prashun Barman said that it is essential to re-read works of geniuses like Padmanath Bhattacharjee. He wrote in Bengali, Hindi, English, Sanskrit and Assamese also. Among others present included Chuni Goswami, footballer, Prof Jayanta Bhattacharjee, former Vice Chancellor of Assam University, Silchar, Prof Bani Prasanna Mishra, Prof Usha Ranjan Bhattacharjee and Taimur Raja Choudhury, editor, Samayik Prasanga.
