Mobile health services launched, Silchar

Silchar: Improvement in health sector in rural areas is a must. In this regard, Piramal Swasthya Management and Research Institute (PSMRI), a not for profit organization supported by Piramal Foundation in collaboration with Shriram Transport Finance Company Ltd. (STFC), has taken the noble initiative for organizing a mobile health service programme twice a month for the truck drivers, helpers and their community through Mobile Medical Unit (MMU).

The objective of the programme is to improve the overall health sector of the truckers’ community and to encourage health seeking behaviour among them.

In this regard, a mobile medical van was launched at a solemn function held at Meherpur in Silchar on Thursday. It was inaugurated by ADC Rajib Roy in the presence of other dignitaries. The MMU will be provided with an MBBS doctor, nurse, pharmacist and driver. The programme will focus on non communicable diseases like hypertension, diabetes and other common and minor ailments. ADC Rajib Roy who was the chief guest at the function commended the initiative and wished them all the luck. “It is heartening and heartwarming to see how two organizations have come forward to provide basic health facilities to the truckers and their community,” he added.
