Nazrul Jayanti celebrated across Silchar

Silchar, May 26: The 119th birth anniversary of revolutionary and rebel poet, writer and musician, Kazi Nazrul Islam has been celebrated as Nazrul Jayanti across the Silchar today. The rebel poet popularly known to all as Nazrul is also the national poet of Bangladesh. He has composed a large number of poems and music which deals with a variety of themes that comprise spiritual rebellion and religious devotion against the evil effects of oppression and fascism. His involvement in crusade against social and political injustice earned him the title of ‘rebel poet’ or Bidrohi Kobi.

On the occasion and in fond memory of the great rebel poet, AIDSO, a students’ organization, AIDYO, AIMSS, KOMSOMOL and other cultural organizations celebrated Nazrul Jayanti in befitting ways. Rich tributes were paid to the rebel poet by organizations and members of the public on the occasion of the rebel poet’s 119th birth anniversary. These organizations also paid floral tributes at the statue of Kazi Nazrul Islam. Significantly, Nazrul is still recalled as a fiery rebel poet who raised his voice against injustice in every sphere of life.
