NELECC leaders discuss NRC, Citizenship Bill

Silchar, July 5: Leaders and members of North East Linguistic and Ethnic Coordination Committee (NELECC) which returned from New Delhi after meeting Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Minister of State for External Affairs General V K Singh, eminent lawyer and BJP MP Subramanian Swamy as well as Ram Madhav, All India General Secretary of BJP, on Thursday were closeted with S Lakshmanan, Deputy Commissioner of Cachar. During their discussion with the Deputy Commissioner, NELECC representatives apprised him of the developments following their talks in Delhi, covering the wide ranging aspects of NRC, Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016, detention camp, mental and physical harassment of the ‘D’ voters and the applicants for enrolment of their names in the draft list.

The Deputy Commissioner assured the NELECC team that every care would be taken to ensure that no genuine Indian citizen is left out of the NRC. Those left out will be given one month’s time to file claims and objections. The NELECC team expressed their satisfaction with the discussion with the Deputy Commissioner and hoped that the final draft would be published and that there would be no incident of any unpleasant happenings.
