Silchar, June 23: A meeting was held in the premises of Madhya Sahar Sanskritik Sangstha on June 11 by the members of Forum for Social Harmony. The Forum’s working committee has decided to conduct a number of surveys on the sectors of health, education and overall development in the town and its neighbouring areas. This has been stated in a press-release by Krishanu Bhattacharjee, on behalf of the Forum. It has also been informed that a public convention will be conducted on September 11 to discuss some of the burning issues that should be addressed at the earliest.

The members of the forum are keen to fight against the challenges that are being faced by residents of Silchar and its neighbouring places. The long and detailed survey will be carried on in various schools and other educatiol institutions with a view to find out the real cause of underdevelopment in educatiol infrastructure. It has been also found that teachers are not taking classes regularly, which, in turn, hampers the students.

It has been noticed, that, students belonging to the richer sections of the society are able to take admission in a private school, which clearly reflects the prevalence of social inequality in a democratic government. Government is also not providing proper attention towards the development of Madrasas. Modern teaching equipments are lacking in many schools. The various schemes, programmes and projects launched by the government from time-to-time, have not been implemented properly.

Corruption has plagued various aspects of development and so the Forum for Social Harmony has given a clarion call to the people to unite and fight hard for their rights. They opine that more power should be vested upon panchayats, boards, gram sabhas, wards and people. In a democratic government, power should be vested upon the people so that they can solve their own problems. In view of the problems stated, it has been requested by the members of the Forum that all democratic organizations and citizens should attend the public convention.
