Silchar: Dr Siddhartha Shankar Bhattacharjee, eminent surgeon and a man of sports with social face, was installed as the new president of Silchar Rotary Club for 2019-2020 at a simple but glittering function at the club precincts last evening. The outgoing president Dr Kiranmoy Das handed over the charter certificate to Dr Bhattacharjee. Elated and exalted on the occasion, Dr Bhattacharjee addressing the esteemed assembly of Rotarians, members of inner wheel, invited guests said the very motto of Rotary Club worldwide ‘is to serve humanity with commitment and dedication and make this beautiful earth worth living for all.’ This is quite in consonance with this year theme ‘Rotary connects the world.’

Dr Bhattacharjee appreciated the inquisitive mind and investigative approach of the members of the club who, as he said, come out with newer ideas and concepts. This makes the task of the president and other members on the board easy and smooth. “I have only to carry forward the projects and get them implemented with the cooperation of all. In fact, I have nothing new to add,” he pointed out. It would be a great pleasure for him to seek advice from all and bring new laurels for the Rotary Club.

Debasis Chakraborty, was installed as the new secretary. He succeeded outgoing secretary Soumitra Shankar Dutta. A seasoned and experienced Rotarian as he is, has envisioned to take the works of the Rotary Club to newer heights and add feather to its crown. The president introduced the board of directors one by one. Among those present was A K Endow, former district governor. The galaxy of Rotary Clubs, Inner Wheel and other sister organizations made the ceremony quite gracious and graceful. Dr Debashish Das, District Governor, graced the occasion as chief guest.

On this eventful occasion, Kabindra Purkayastha, former union minister, and Badal Dey, former DSA president, were felicitated. The magazine ‘Balaka’ was released. The programme concluded with vote of thanks and cultural presentation.
