Wheelchairs for disabled voters in Silchar

SILCHAR: As part of extending all possible help to the physically impaired voters and to ensure the participation of all eligible persons in exercising their franchise on the polling date of April 18 for the two Lok Sabha seats of Barak Valley, the district administration of Cachar has made elaborate arrangement for providing wheelchairs to them.

District Development Commissioner of Cachar, Nabarun Bhattacharjee, attended a meeting in the premises of Earle Higher Secondary School at Lakhipur organized by circle officer Pradip Kumar Gupta on Friday to brief the representatives from different wings of administration, block level officers, tea garden managers of the areas and village defence party members.

Nabarun Bhattacharjee briefed the block level officers about the nature of job they have to perform, particularly on the day of polling. The physically handicapped have to be carried from their homes to polling booths and after exercising their franchise, they have to be taken back by deploying wheel chairs. The tea garden managers of Labac, Borthal and Dewan, all police stations and election staff have been impressed upon to extend their helping hand to the BLOs so that voters on wheel chairs do not face any difficulty.
