World Environment Day observed by BSF and other organizations

Silchar, June 6: To promote awareness on the importance of preserving our biodiversity, the need to identify problems related to the environment and ways to take corrective action, World Environment Day (WED) is observed on June 5 every year. It is a means to tackle environmental challenges that include climate changes, global warming, disasters and conflicts, harmful substances, environmental governance, ecosystem management and resource efficiency. In order to meet the challenges posed due to global warming and to bring environment awareness among BSF troops, a special programme was organized on this day by BSF at headquarters BSF Mizoram and Cachar Frontier, Masimpur, Silchar. On this special occasion, the BSF organized various programmes including plantation of saplings of fruit bearing trees, flower trees and other shady trees, cleaning of campuses inside the BSF campus, cultural programme related to World Environment Day and awareness rally programme in the area around BSF campus.

NS Jamwal, Inspector General BSF, chief guest on the occasion, exhorted that though plastic has many valuable uses, everyone has become over-reliant on single use or disposable plastic which is non-biodegradable in nature that exposes human, marine and wildlife to carcinogens. He urged all to lay great emphasis on the need for sustainable living in this age of indiscriminate waste production by saying “No” to plastic, live in clean and green campus.

In a similar way, Bharat Vikash Parishad observed World Environment Day in a unique manner by handing over colour coded buckets to SM Dev Civil Hospital, Silchar, for segregation of bio medical wastes before incineration. D N Jalan, Prasenjit Dasgupta and others, were present during the distribution of the buckets.

In a bid to motivate and inspire students to plant and save trees, around 60 saplings were planted by the teachers, students and staff of Lakhipur Earle Higher Secondary School on the occasion of World Environment Day on Tuesday. Anjan Kanti Nath, principal of the School, advised the students and management authority to take good care of the plant saplings. He said that trees provide shade and help in keeping the environment cool and free of diseases. Anjan Kanti Sharma also advised all to keep the environment neat and clean and to use dustbins.
