CJM court extends Sharjeel Imam’s custody to another 14 days

GUWAHATI: The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court in Guwahati extended judicial custody of Sharjeel Imam to another 14 days. He was produced before the court yesterday.

Imam was charged with sedition for making offensive remarks on Assam and the Northeast in a video.

“If we have five lakh organized people then we can cut the North-east from rest of India. Our responsibility is to cut Assam from India then Government will hear our voice. If we have to help Assam then we will have to cut Assam from the rest of India,” said Imam in a video, where he is heard speaking to a gathering.

A team of Assam Police brought Imam to Guwahati on February 20 after he was arrested from Bihar for his remarks.

The police have been able to get Urdu messages sent by Sharjeel through his WhatsApp, email, etc and are being examined.
