COVID-19 update: Police fire in air in Assam’s Bongaigaon after some pelted stones

GUWAHATI: Police who were trying to close down a market in Assam’s Bongaigaon region had to fire in air after some people pelted stones at them.

Police have arrested four people. The situation is normal now.

Just yesterday, the government had announced that throughout Assam only grocery shops and pharmacy shops will be open. Rest everything will be shut. Meat and fish shops will be shut. After review the situation on April 1, it will be decided if meat and fish shops can be open.

The decision was taken after people violated social distancing and created ruckus at vegetable markets.

On this the Assam Police had said, “We’re saddened to see that even after repeated appeals from the highest in the land, citizens refuse to follow #SocialDistanacing.

They’re endangering everyone, including their own parents & children.

Given the gravity of situation, all weekly & daily open markets of vegetables, fish & meat are being closed.

These visuals show a dangerous reality.

Please follow #Lockdown21 guidelines.”

India is gearing up with infrastructure and measures in case the country enters Stage 3 of the coronavirus pandemic.

Stage 3 arrives when community transmission begins and the source of infection isn’t known.

Stage 2, which is now our current phase, is when local transmissions occur.

Stage 1 takes place when the cases that show up are mostly imported.

So far India has reported 902 cases of coronavirus infection. 20 people have died so far.
