Dimapur: Nagaland took a major step in promoting emerging sports by successfully hosting its first-ever official pickleball tournament—the Nagaland Pickleball Open—at Aiko Greens, Dimapur.

Organised by the Nagaland Pickleball Association (NPA) in partnership with the Indian Pickleball Association (IPA), the tournament was held on Sunday and featured 32 teams from Nagaland, Assam, and neighboring areas. As a PWR 50 sanctioned event, it held national-level significance. Matches were contested in two categories—Men’s Doubles Open and Mixed Doubles.

In the Men’s Doubles Open, Megotsolie Khate and Vilasier Khate secured the championship title, earning a cash prize of ₹15,000 and a trophy. Dilip Mohanty and Abyas Zaffar finished as runners-up, receiving ₹10,000 and trophies. In the Mixed Doubles category, Dilip Mohanty paired with Nazneen Rahman to win the title, also bagging ₹10,000 and trophies.

A sizable and spirited crowd gathered to witness the action, reflecting the growing enthusiasm for pickleball in the state.

The NPA extended its appreciation to the Assam Pickleball Association for its crucial support, and to Tournament Director Dilip Mohanty for his efficient and professional handling of the event. The association also thanked all participants, supporters, and partners for making the inaugural Nagaland Pickleball Open a landmark success.
