Find out how rainfall affects coronavirus pandemic across India?

GUWAHATI: Apart from trying to come up with a vaccination for coronavirus, a lot of analysis has been happening around what kind of weather conditions can impede the growth of coronavirus.

Hearsay has it that the summer will come as a respite when it comes to coronavirus.

According to an article in MIT Technolgy review, warmer weather could impede the growth of the virus.

“In the most recent analysis out of MIT, which used data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, the researchers found that the maximum number of coronavirus transmissions has occurred in regions that had temperatures between 3 and 13 °C during the outbreak. In contrast, countries with mean temperatures above 18 °C have seen fewer than 5% of total cases. This pattern also shows up within the US, where southern states like Texas, Florida, and Arizona have seen a slower growth rate than northern states like Washington, New York, and Colorado. California, which spans north and south, has a growth rate that falls in between,” according to the article.

According to WHO, COVID-19 virus can be transmitted in areas with hot and humid climates.

From the evidence so far, the COVID-19 virus can be transmitted in ALL AREAS, including areas with hot and humid weather. Regardless of climate, adopt protective measures if you live in, or travel to an area reporting COVID-19. The best way to protect yourself against COVID-19 is by frequently cleaning your hands. By doing this you eliminate viruses that may be on your hands and avoid infection that could occur by then touching your eyes, mouth, and nose,” says WHO.

Coronavirus is an infection that spreads mainly from person-to-person. Director, AIIMS, Delhi, Dr. Randeep Guleria sought to dismiss claims that the intensity of COVID-19 would taper down and ultimately vanish with temperatures going up. “The impact of the virus is as serious in hot-humid weather conditions of Singapore as in the colder environment of European countries,” he said.
