FIR filed against UPPL party chief of Assam for “spreading false information”

GUWAHATI: Suleman Narzary, a resident of Kokrajhar town filed an FIR against Promod Boro, the chief of United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), for “spreading false information” on number of coronavirus infection in India.

The complainant who filed the FIR said that during a televised interview Bora had claimed that 30,000 people have been infected in India from coronavirus which is incorrect because government data claims otherwise. It has reported a little more than 4,200 infections.

“We are facing a very bad time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Central and the State governments urged the people not to make any faulty statement on COVID-19. Here, we have the president of UPPL who is disseminating false information,” Mr. Narzary said.

Boro told media that it was a mere slip of tongue from his end and that he only realised this later.
