Indian Idol Termed "Scripted" Following Northeastern Boy's Exit

GUWAHATI: Singing Reality shows like Indian Idol and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa has given the music industry singers like Shreya Ghoshal, Arijit Singh and Jubin Nautiyal. Lately, these reality shows have become TRP mongers as these shows are now more concerned about a particular singer's background than his or her voice.

Many times, these reality shows are termed as "scripted" as quality singers have to take an exit from the show. Such an incident happened in this year's Indian Idol Auditions which is the 13th edition of the singing reality show when a singer from Arunachal Pradesh Rito Riba did not make it to the final list.

Netizens came down heavily on the show terming it "scripted" and berated the show for not recognizing talent from Northeast India.

The condemnation gathered more heat when Nagaland's Education and Tribal Affairs Minister Temjen Imna also joined in with a GIF image saying, "Hum Bhi Bana Lenge"(We will make our own) hinting toward making a northeastern version of the reality show.

Netizens even started a campaign on social media to boycott the show.

However, the singer Rito Riba assuaged the netizens by saying, "It was my dream to represent my state on national television which I have done wearing the traditional garb of my state"

"We must show some respect and trust toward the judges as they have given many singers a platform to showcase their singing talents over the years and it is really difficult for them to choose from a multitude of good singers," Riba added.

It is also to be noted here that Nahid Afreen from Assam who was the runner-up of the Indian Idol Junior 2015 edition was also among the competitors, she also did qualify for the second round but was unable to make it to the final list of the ongoing Indian Idol 13 edition.
