Shillong: Abhay Negi claimed his best ever first-class figures on the second day of Meghalaya’s Ranji Trophy match against Sikkim in Mangaldai, Assam, on Wednesday.

Negi had taken 4/32 by end of play yesterday and returned with three more wickets for just 10 runs to finish with 7/42 as Sikkim, who resumed on 105/6, was bundled out for 128, trailing Meghalaya’s first innings total of 174 by 46 runs. Dipu Sangma also added to his overnight tally of two wickets to finish with figures of 3/16. These were also his best figures in the four-day format.

Abhay Negi then claimed another three in Sikkim’s second innings to leave them on 66/7 at stumps. Negi thus has figures of 10/59 with the possibility of adding to his scalps tomorrow.

Negi’s previous best innings figures in first-class cricket were his 5/90 against Goa last month. He had also been in the news this season after hitting the joint fifth-fastest half-century in a T20 match against Mizoram in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy back in November.
