GUWAHATI: The Annual General Meeting of the Gauhati Sports Association is likely to be deferred due to the impact of COVID-19. The meeting is scheduled to be held in the first week of May.

Gauhati Sports Association is considered as one of the pioneer organizations of the State and it is known for its tradition to hold Annual General Meeting on time. But this time it might not be happened.

Talking to The Sentinel the secretary of the Gauhati Sports Association Dhrubajyoti Kalita said: “We were nicely moving ahead as per our plan to complete the entire sporting calendar and organize the Annual General Meeting on time. But COVID-19 destroyed our entire plans.”

He explained, “Considering the present situation I don’t think Annual General Meeting would be held in the first week of May which is the schedule time of the meeting. I feel it’s almost impossible now. Once normalcy returns we will organize the working committee meeting and take the decision on the AGM.”

It may be mentioned here that Gauhati Sports Association planned to felicitate its affiliated players who represented State teams in various discipline during last one year. The event was supposed to be held on March 22 but it was postponed.

Kalita added: “Apart from completing the schedule sports event we had also planned to felicitate our players who represented State teams in various discipline last year. The idea behind this plan was to motivate and inspire our players. But we were forced to postpone the event because of lockdown.”
