All Assam Football Players Association (AAFPA) to work for development of football in Assam

GUWAHATI: All Assam Football Players Association (AAFPA) will take a series of steps to develop football in the state. The decision was taken in the Annual General Meeting of the association which was held at the AOA Conference Hall in the city.

The meeting also constituted new executive committee with Hem Das as president and Durga Boro as secretary.

Talking to The Sentinel the new secretary Durga Boro today said, “A series of resolution were taken in the meeting with aim to develop football in Assam. We need good programme in the grass root level and also sufficient number of good coaches. We will give special thrust in these two areas.”

The association will also introduce player of the year and coach of the year awards from the next year and will also felicitate one former international footballer in the programme.

The meeting feels, constitute of one football association in each district is now very essential as there was instance that many people, who didn’t have proper knowledge of the game, had become the member of the Assam Football Association. It is one of the factors that hinder the development of football in the State. A team from the association will soon meet with the AFA officials and place the request in this regard.

Meanwhile AAFPA will organize 3-4 charity matches in the coming months to raise fund for the family members of former footballer Apurba Phukan who recently died in a road accident. Boro said, “Apurba was from our fraternity and it would be nice if we do something for his family. We will soon organize 3-4 charity matches in different parts of the state and the entire amount would be handed over to his family.”
