KOKRAJHAR: The 25th Kyorugi and 6th Poomsae All Bodoland Taekwondo Championship and Silver Jubilee celebration of All Bodoland Taekwondo Association (ABTA) entered the second day today at Sikhnajhar Taekwondo Gymnasium, Kokrajhar. The participants from all four districts of BTC including players from Goalpara, Nalbari, Kamrup, Kamrup (Metro), Dhemaji, Sonitpur, Jarhat and Barpeta districts also participated in the championship while participants for demonstration from Bhutan, Sikkim and Darjeeling also joined enthusiastically. Over 500 players from BTC and Assam have enlisted for the competition.

Talking to reporters on the sideline of the inaugural function of silver jubilee celebration, the president of the ABTA Biswajit Daimary who is also the Rajya Sabha MP said the association was formed way back in 1993 to tab the budding talents in martial arts especially taekwondo in BTC region. He said the association had been working for producing more youths in the taekwondo from BTC area where council region is potential enough to tab the sporting talents.

Daimary said there were lots of players who have received medals in the state and national level tournaments in taekwondo who have brought laurels to BTC. “Our aim is to take our sporting talents in the international arena and Olympic Games”, he said adding that the players from BTC have to play with the team of the state in national and international events for which they get only a little chance. He said the Sports and Youth Welfare department is already transferred to BTC and it is looking after the development of sports and infrastructures and thus the government should give chance to BTC to play separately in all sporting events in national level. He also said if the BTC is given opportunity to play separately in any national level tournaments, more players will get chance to play and bring laurels.

As part of the programme on second day, the president of the All Bodoland Taekwondo Championship Biswajit Daimary hoisted the organizational flag while Silver Jubilee Tomb was inaugurated by the Chief Technical Director of ABTA Grand Master M.T. Lepcha. The EM of BTC Maheswar Basumatary unveiled the Mascot of the silver jubilee while arena was opened by the president of the Reception Committee Damar S.B. Gurung.
