ASJA to confer Sports Awards today

GUWAHATI, Jan 10: The ASJA Sports Awards 2021 will be conferred on Olympic Bronze medallist boxer Lovlina Borgohain, swimming sensation Shivangi Sarma and others at Landmark Hotel in the city tomorrow. Assam Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Bimal Bora will be the chief guest of the awards ceremony and it will also be attended by former Asian Games medallist shooter Jaydeep Das and several other sports personalities of the state.

This time Awards will be given in four categories and the recipients are: RG Baruah Best Sportsperson of the Year Award: Lovlina Borgohain (Boxing).

Nripendra Narayan Singha Best Junior Sportspersons of the Year Award: Shivangi Sarma (Swimming) and Sidhanta Gogoi (Weightlifting),

Nurul Amin Best Team of the Year Award: Assam state volleyball team and Pulin Das Lifetime Achievement Award: Premadhar Sarma.

Named the best sportsperson of the year, Lovlina Borgohain today said: "I am overwhelmed to be named for the award. I'll attend the awards ceremony and receive the honour in person. I owe a lot to the journalists of Assam, and it is because of their encouragement and confidence in me that I have achieved the Olympic feat. I hope they will continue to shower their blessings on me so that I can bring more laurels to the state of Assam as well as the nation."
