GUWAHATI: Within a gap of 24 hours second sportspersons of the State tested positive for COVID-19. This time it is boxer Rumi Gogoi.
Confirming the news Hemanta Kalita, secretary of the Assam Amateur Boxing Association, said that the boxer is now undergoing treatment. Rumi, an employee of NF Railway, represented Assam in several National level Championships and also won medals for the State.
Earlier yesterday former goalkeeper of Assam Durjoy Brahma was tested positive.
The scenario of COVID-19 in the State now is very grim and the number of affected persons are nearly15,000. All the sports activities in the State have been stopped since lockdown was imposed in the country in March.
Local sports organizers feel that after going through the current COVID-19 scenario it is very much difficult to predict when the sports activities will resume in the State. Already several District level Sports Championships were postponed.
