Assam Fencing Association’s new infrastructure to be ready shortly: Durgadas Boro

GUWAHATI: The president of the Assam Fencing Association (AFA) Durgadas Boro today announced that the new infrastructure of the association would be ready within next two months and state fencers would be able to do their regular practice at the new venue. At present the state fencers are using the infrastructure of Sports Authority of India (NE Region) for training purpose.
Talking to the media persons at the side line of the Senior National Fencing Championship Boro , who was selected as the chairman of the Fencing Association of India during its executive committee meeting yesterday, said, “ It was a big problem for us to train our boys and girls as we didn’t have permanent training facilities. However the problem will be over soon as we are constructing our new infrastructure at the RG Baruah Sports complex and it would be ready by next two months.”
He also added: The president of the Fencing Association of India Rajeev Mehta yesterday laid the foundation stone of the new infrastructure and the Assam Fencing Association also received a fund of Rs 31 lakh from MP Bijoya Chakraborty through GMDA.“
Meanwhile commenting on his new post in the national body Boro said, “ This type of responsibility is not new to me. Earlier also I was at the top post in Fencing Association of India. I would try my best to take the association forward. “
Boro today also reveal that like this year Guwahati will also organize the next edition of the Senior National Fencing championship. The calendar for the next one year was prepared during the executive committee meeting of the Association yesterday and Guwahati is selected as the venue of the next edition of the senior National Championship.
