GUWAHATI: Keeping in mind COVID-19 pandemic Assam Football Association is planning to host Inter District Soccer tournaments in different format this time. The competitions may be held on zonal basis in four or five venues and champion teams will be qualified for the final round which may be held in separate venue.
A source from the Assam Football Association admitting the news said that due to COVID-19 pandemic it would be very difficult for a host city to organize the entire competition in a particular place this time. So it has planned to host all the Inter Districts meets in the zonal level first and then invite the winners of each zone to the final round so that the number of teams can be reduced in a particular place.
A meeting in this regard was held in Silchar yesterday which was attended by the treasurer of the Assam Football Association Hiren Gogoi. The meeting decided that matches of Barak Zone will be held in different places of the region. Five teams- Hailakandi, Dima Hasao, Karimganj, Lakhipur and Silchar- will compete in Inter District meets which dates would be announced shortly.
