Assam made cautious start in their run chase against Maharashtra on Day II of Ranji Trophy tie at Lahli today. In reply to Maharashtra’s first innings total 415 Assam scored 87-2 at stumps in the first innings. Opener Subham Mandal and Riyan Parag remained not out on 34 and 26 respectively.

GUWAHATI: Assam made cautious start in their run chase against Maharashtra on Day II of Ranji Trophy tie at Lahli today. In reply to Maharashtra's first innings total 415 Assam scored 87-2 at stumps in the first innings. Opener Subham Mandal and Riyan Parag remained not out on 34 and 26 respectively.

It was Subham and Rishav Das who opened the innings for Assam today. The first wicket partnership produced 21 runs before Rishav (14) lost his wicket. Rishav was quickly followed by Gokul Sharma (5) when Assam were 2-32. When it looked like that Maharashtra were going to put pressure on Assam Subham and Riyan nicely repaired the damage. The third wicket unbroken partnership between them already added 49 runs. Subham played exactly 100 balls to score 34 with the help of 6 boundaries. Riyan took 64 balls to score 26 with 5 boundaries.

Earlier Maharashtra, who started the day from overnight score 278-5, took their total to 415 thanks to a magnificent knock from opener PH Shah. The batsman, who was not out on 165 yesterday, took his total to 219 before got out on the bowling of Mukhtar Hussain. He faced 401 balls and hit 20 boundaries and 2 sixes. SS Bachhav (52) scored half century in the innings.

Mukhtar, the most successful bowler in the first innings, displayed a good show with the ball. The promising pacer, bowled 37 overs in the innings, picked up 5 wickets for 88. Arup Das and Ranjeet Mali collected two wickets each.
