Assam Olympic Association advises athletes to work on fitness

GUWAHATI: The Assam Olympic Association today reached out present and former athletes of the state through tele conference and suggested them to take all precautionary steps to stay safe during the lockdown period. The association also advised the current athletes to do the regular practice during their stay at home.

The secretary of the Assam Athletic Association Lakhya Konwar spoke at length with the present and former athletes who included Arjuna awardee Bhogeswar Barua, former international Tayabun Nesca and new sensation in Indian athletics Hima Das.

During the conversation he checked on the health, nutrition and mental well being of the present and former athletes. Lakhya advised to the current athletes to continue with the exercises as directed by the coaches.

Assam Olympic Association has given special thrust to monitor the fitness of the players once the lockdown was imposed in the country to combat COVID-19. Chief Minister of Assam and the president of the Assam Olympic Association Sarbananda Sonowal and secretary Lakhya Konwar through tele conference advised all the national and international level players to work on the fitness during the lockdown. They even instructed the different State Sports Associations to monitor the activities of the athletes and to provide necessary guidance if requires.
